Mark “Mutha” Hubbard USN (retired)
Mark "Mutha" Hubbard was born aboard Blytheville Arkansas Air Force Base. Realized at an early age that flying was too expensive to be a hobby so he joined the Navy upon graduation from college to pursue his passion for flight. Retired as a Captain after 28 brief years of service. Combat veteran with over 5000 tactical flight hours, 5 carrier deployments, over 700 arrested landings, with over 4000 hours in all Type Models of the FA-18 Hornet. Mutha was the former Commodore of Strike Fighter Wing Pacific and Commanding Officer of Strike Fighter Squadron 151 where he led the first coalition strikes of Operation Iraqi Freedom into Iraqi on March 21, 2003.
Mutha began his Naval career with VA-52 flying the venerable A6E Intruder, LSO cross-trained in F-14 Tomcat with VF-124, and later transitioned to FA-18 Hornets with VMFAT-101 where he served as an Instructor and Fleet Replacement Squadron Landing Signals Officer. He completed operational tours with VMFA-314, CAG Paddles tour with Carrier Air Wing Eleven, and a Department Head tour with VFA-115. Ashore he was assigned as the Operations Officer for the Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific, Assistant Officer in Charge of the Super Hornet Fleet Introduction Team where he participated in the Operational Evaluation (OPEVAL) with VX-9 and the stand-up of the Navy's first Super Hornet FRS VFA-122. His education includes an Engineering Undergraduate Degree from Missouri State University and Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Navy War College, RI.
Mutha holds an Airline Transport Pilot, CFI, CFII, MEI, Airframes & Powerplant Mechanic ratings, and is currently flying the F21 KFIR and MK-58 Hawker Hunter for ATAC USA as Opposition Force in support of Navy Air Wing and Top Gun training, Navy Fleet surface training, Navy/USMC FA-18/F35 Fleet Replacement Dissimilar Air Combat training.
In his free time it’s still all about Aviation. Enjoys giving rides in his Cub, Stearman, Birddog, Texan, or Beech Kansan to any and all that will break the surly bonds of earth.
Life Member and supporter of the Commemorative Air Force. Rated in F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, F8F Bearcat, A4 Skyhawk, MK-58 Hawker Hunter, F-21 KFIR, SIC B17 Flying Fortress.
